Sight-Seeing = Pictures Of Us In Front Of Stuff

Lower Manhattan

Taken from the Staten Island Ferry on our way to see this gal...

The Statue of Liberty
Surprisingly small in real life.

Addi on the Ferry
(I tried to get her and Miss Liberty in the same shot but it wasn't working out)

Here she is on wall street and I think this is the last smile you'll see.

Wall Street

Ground Zero...under construction.

Trinity Church

Purl Patchwork in SoHo....AWESOME!!!
For those who don't know (if any) it is a fabric shop with only the most fabulous fabrics.
I told Randall that fabric would be my souvenir...and he wasn't there to stop me.

Times Square

New York hot dog!

At the suggestion of my friend, I left Addi with her and Amy and I went back to Times Square and entered a couple lotteries to get into a show for cheap. We tried West Side Story but didn't get picked but I was the first one picked for 9 to 5 the Musical it was AWESOME!!!

The cast was amazing and I was so glad to see Allison Janney as the lead. She's another 6-footer, us tall gals have to look out for each other! Even Amy (not a Broadway lover) was laughing and having a great time. This show made the trip for me!

Then to top it off Todd treated us to Pinkberry frozen yogurt. By far the best frozen yogurt I've ever had!

Thanks Harris' for such an awesome time, you're the best!

Manhattan Temple

On our way to the Temple.
I know I just posted a similar picture but I thought it was so cute of her just riding that bike down the sidewalks. However, it did get a little dodgy there after a while, they were trying to go around people but were actually mowing them down.

It was amazing to see the Angel Moroni up there in the midst of the other buildings.

We couldn't go inside past the lobby (obviously) but here we are posing with the shrubbery outside.

Central Park

We just returned from spending 3 fun filled days with our good friends in NYC.
We had the most amazing time!!!!
I'll be posting picutres in installments so here's the first one
We arrived later than we'd planned (traffic!) but as soon as we threw our stuff down and Ashley found me a parking spot we headed out to Central Park.
They just live across the street so we didn't have far to go.
Ben let Addi use his bike.

We first went to a playground with this granite slide. It was really cool and the kids could have stayed all day!

Next we had a picnic at Sheep's Meadow.
It was gorgeous!

A great way to start our vacay!

Sweet+Weekend=Sweekend

We went down to RI this weekend to hang out with the Kennedy's and did tons of this:
I know this picture is blurry but that expression is hilar.
We had an herbal tea lesson from Tadd so now I feel perfectly proper.
Just a hop, skip and a jump away from the compound are the polo grounds where they have a match every Saturday night.
The US was playing Ireland and it was awesome!
I don't really know anything about polo but it is just fun to watch and very fast paced.
It was quite an extravagant affair, everyone with their fancy picnics with candelabras, wine and stinky cheese.
I just wish I had a floppy hat to wear.

They line up to start each 7min. period or chukka?

We came at the end of half time so we didn't get to put the divets back in the field but it looked like the kids had that well in hand.

Ireland won and at the very end the spectators lined the field while all of the players (8 in all) rode around the field and slapped everyone's hand...it was SWEET! I'm looking forward to more polo...I'm just that sophisticated.

Eastie Rocks!

After an exhaustive search we have found a winner of the
"BEST FOUNTAIN PARK IN BOSTON"
it's actually in East Boston ("Eastie" to the locals).
Bremen St. Park was the clear winner and here's why:
-It has the address right in the name.
-Has the most water fountains with the biggest area
-The park is HUGE and divided into age levels
-There is tons of parking (except for 1&4th Wednesdays for street cleaning)
-You can eat lunch right there inside the park (this is unique)
-Speaking of lunch they have free lunch from 11-noon for kids (provided by the YMCA)
-It is right on the blue line and you basically step off the train and into the water.
-There are 4-5 police officers supervising the park (which can be good or bad but better safe than sorry)
The only "con" is that it IS in East Boston, not the nicest part of town and to avoid a toll on the way back you have to take the long way around. But It's worth it I think.

Tall Ships

This last week in Boston they had a bunch of tall ships docked at different wharfs around the harbor. It was an organized thing, I think they sail to different ports around the world to show off these fancy ships but I'm not sure.

Anyway, Amy, Addi and I jumped on the train and headed on down to see what all the hubbub was about.

This is our very own Baroque Eagle manned by the US Coast Guard in Connecticut.

After waiting for probably a shorter time than it felt because of the heat and humidity we finally got to tour the ship.

They had these really cool coils of rope everywhere.
foul weather gear

Here we are aboard the "Eagle"
And yes, I too wish I could brush the computer screen and get that hair out of my face.

This handsome sailor offered to take our picture and then obliged while we had a little fun with him.
I asked if he felt like a side-show but he said this was probably as close to being a celebrity as he'd get...nice guy.

Addi left with a Sailor's Tattoo and a souvenir coin.

Then we jumped on the ferry (and by jumped I mean waited in yet another long line to get on) and went across the harbor to Quincy Market where we treated ourselves to lunch, ice cream and street performers.

PS: Then on Monday we were at the beach and we saw all of the ships leaving the harbor it looked like either Columbus and his entorage or pirates...we like the pirate idea better.

Adelaide's Lemonade

Addi has been DYING to have a lemonade stand. Ever since she was invited to help her friends Hazel and Charlie with their lemonade stand her entrepreneurial spirit has been ablaze. So finally, when we had our little yard sale we set up her little stand.

She sat out there for 3 hours promoting her lemonade and lollipops.
She came in with a cup full of cashes (dollar bills) and money (coins).
The first thing she did was separate out her tithing (unprompted, I'm proud to say) and the rest is in a plastic baggie just waiting for a trip to the dollar store.

Take a picture, it will last longer...

I'm glad I got a picture of this little teacup pincushion that I sent to my bestie for our swap before the combination of my poor packaging and her mailman destroyed it. I haven't told Addi though because she searched through every teacup at the Cambridge Goodwill to find this very particular cup for a very particular "Lily's Mom."
I'll try to be more mailman proof next time.

Don't Pee in the Pool

On the Fourth we headed down to RI to hangout with our friends at their beach/pool house. Addi loved the pool and spent almost 6 hours in it...needless to say pool pictures are all I've got.
I use Photoshop Lightroom and I just discovered that you can upload presets for free! Basically that means that I don't edit, (which I couldn't do anyway) I just click until I find a preset that makes my otherwise mediocre picture look cool...you'll see I went a little crazy. There's a million pictures, you don't have to look at them all.

She felt so big jumping off the diving board by herself.

She did warm up by going off the side a few times first.
PS I'll give you a nickle if you can guess my favorite part of this picture
(you might have to click on the picture though to get a better look at it)

As you've probably noticed most of the pictures will be showcasing those fabulous goggles.

The pool isn't heated so we had to get out every once in a while and warm up.

This is Addi after 6 hours of swimming: purple lips and happy as a clam
Thanks Truscotts for an AWESOME 4th!
